What the app does
Scoreboard Merlin shows scores, schedules, and standings for sports teams you choose to follow. It needs an internet connection to fetch current game data from public sources. It is available as a website (merlin.gamesmarts.net) and as an iOS app that displays the same thing.
Information we do not collect
- No account, sign-up, name, email, or password.
- No advertising, ad identifiers, or third-party trackers.
- No analytics profiles tied to you.
- No location data.
The teams you follow
When you pick favorite teams, that list is saved locally on your device (in your browser or app storage). To show you scores, the app sends the list of team identifiers to our server so it can fetch the right games. That request isn't linked to your identity โ it's used to build your scoreboard and briefly cached to keep the service fast.
Keeping your teams in sync across devices
So your phone and your computer can show the same board, your list of team identifiers is also stored on our server under a random sync code that your device generates. The code is not tied to a name, email, device identifier, or anything else about you; it's the only way to look the list up, and only devices you connect with a one-time pairing code share it. The stored list contains team identifiers and nothing else, and is deleted automatically a year after it was last changed. You can see or copy your sync code from My Teams in the app, and you can delete the stored list from our server at any time with Forget this device in that same panel.
So your board survives if your browser clears its storage, your device also remembers the sync code in a long-lived first-party cookie. That cookie stays on your device โ it is never sent to or read by our server (the sync code travels only as part of the request that looks your list up) โ and it holds nothing but the random code.
Technical logs
Like any website, our hosting provider may keep standard technical logs (for example, IP address, time of request, and error information) for security, abuse prevention, and reliability. These aren't used to build a profile of you and aren't sold or shared for advertising.
Where the scores come from
Game data is retrieved from public sources, including ESPN and MaxPreps. Scoreboard Merlin is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by ESPN, MaxPreps, or any league, team, or other organization; their names are used only to identify the teams and competitions you follow. When the app contacts those sources, their own privacy practices apply to that data.
Children
The app is suitable for all ages and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and post the new version at this page.
